I’m off to QuÃ?Â??Ã?Â?Ã?©bec City for the Cato University seminar on “The Art of Persuasion.” I’ve developed my checklist for public speaking, worked on my talks, and prepared myself to meet lots of smart libertarians over wonderful QuÃ?Â??Ã?Â?Ã?©bÃ?Â??Ã?Â?Ã?©cois food. (It’s also given me the opportunity to review a number of classical texts on rhetoric, including Plato, Aristotle, Demosthenes, Cicero, Quintilian, as well as a few modern ones, such as David Kelley’s excellent The Art of Reasoning.)
Then it’s back to D.C. on Halloween and work, including some fun meetings with members of the Austrian and German parliaments on November 3 to discuss the elections and what they will mean for public policy in the U.S. In mid-November I’ll be out to California to give lectures at Santa Clara University (the 16th), California State University at Hayward (the 17th), and San Jose State University (the 18th).
