The Daily Telegraph has an interesting story on the Ukrainian elections and why there are credible reasons to believe that the vote was rigged. It now looks like the vote will be held again. Let’s hope that it is and that violence will be avoided. One can also hope that one outcome of the current negotiations might be a more federal structure for Ukraine, so that inhabitants in the eastern, mainly Russian-speaking regions would not feel threatened by domination by the western, mainly Ukrainian-speaking regions. (The BBC has a useful short treatment of the country’s divisions.)
