Applied Economics: User-Friendly Tools to Understand
Politics, Business Enterprise, and Life

Cato University, of which I am the director, will have three seminars this year. The first, to be held April 28-May 1, will be on applications of economics. The faculty will include yours truly; Michael Munger, chair of the political science faculty at Duke University; Karol Boudreaux of the Mercatus Center and George Mason University Law School; Ed Crane, revered founder and president of the Cato Institute; Peter Van Doren, editor of Regulation magazine; David Boaz, author of Libertarianism: A Primer; Dan Griswold, director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies; Jagadeesh Gokhale, senior fellow at the Cato Institute; and Michael Tanner, director of the Project on Social Security Choice.

There are some scholarships available for high school and college students. For those of us out of high school or college, the registration fee has been reduced to $750, which includes all lectures and discussions, readings, and all meals (breakfasts, luncheons, receptions, and dinners for four days). (It does not include lodging, but we have arranged really great hotel rooms in the hotels right across the streets from Cato, at $142 for singles or doubles.) In addition, there will be a tour of Mount Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington (I’m told that both of them slept there), where some of the lectures will be held. And in addition to the in addition, participants receive a fabulous event-specific upper body garment, that is to say, a really nice t-shirt.

There are currently no plans for transcripts, but some of the material may end up on CatoAudio, the Cato Institute’s monthly audio magazine. It’s not that far to come over the pond….

Jonathan, I’ve asked for the photos and will try to have them posted. Thanks for the request.
