Cato’s internship program has provided me with invaluable experience into the inner workings of public policy. But even more than that, it illustrated that classical liberals – who, as a political group, can be famously intransigent – can flourish in an environment where others sell out their principles all the time. Even today, four years later, I continue to draw from the essential lessons that Dr. Palmer imparted that summer. I give it my highest recommendation.

The Koch Summer Fellow Program is a lovely way to spend your summer. It is run by a young lady who is as equally humble and good-looking as the Cato Intern Director.

BTW, Mr. Newburn is a past Koch Program alum.

The IHS programs are really great and I encourage students to apply (and put extra effort into the applications, as they are very competitive) and people who have left the student stage of life to support them financially or in other ways.

Ryan, send me your application answers on your plans in an email — and please read the remarks above and be sure to send in a carefully proofed application.

And Pat, thanks for your support for the IHS interns. The journalism program is a really important initiative and a great example of coordination between organizations committed to liberty. Keep up the great work!

Ditto, Tom. We at the Odessa American have hosted IHS interns for several years. In fact, the intern we hosted two years ago is now a full-time OA associate and is one of our star reporters. As one who has worked closely with the IHS folks and I can attest to the fact that they — along with the host newspapers — provide an incredible learning experience for some really talented young journalists.
