The [Old] School of Athens*
My friend Sokratis Metaxas has just alerted me to a libertarian website and blog, in both Greek and English. Smart commentary by Sokratis, Takis Michas, Panagiotis Evangelopolous (whom I met in Szirak, Hungary, in 1990 at the one of the first IES Europe seminars), and other smart Greek libertarians. All at e-rooster.
*I took part recently in a program of “The New School of Athens.”
Are you sure that Kyrios Metaxas is libertarian? His blog-roll includes LittleGreenFootballs,Instapundit and V.D. Hanson. It seems like the neocons are infiltrating the libertarian movement even in its ancestral citadel!
He linked in a blogslist to people some another person doesn’t like! Call the Akropolis!
I think who you link to is a poor measure of your own political/philosophical position. On my own blog, I often have links to blogs with which I tend to *disagree* simply because I think they raise interesting points or have intelligent discussion. It need not be an endorsement.
Hello!
I am one of the two creators of the e-Rooster (together with Paulos Msaouel). Sokratis Metaxas, Panos Euangellopoulos, Takis Michas are all friends of us that publish their articles.
Allmost alla the links are my choise. I feel I sould explain e few things about them.
It is a bit confusing for an american to tell our political philosophy, if he doesn’t know greek political reality.
Greece is dominated by traditional leftist marxist thinking mixed with religious conservatives. Greece has the strongest anti-american sentiment in Europe.
Liberal thinking (in it’s classical meaning) allmost abscent.
There is not the luxary of diversity when there are no more than 10 liberal pro-market sites or blogs in Greece!
That’s why we don’t add only libertarian (or classical liberal) links. We want to present to the greek internet sites of a wider political range. Sites most Greeks have never heard of that present political views totaly unknown in Greece.
I want to close by expressing my admiration for CATO Institute which is a great source of inspiration for us. We (the creators of e-Rooster) are planning in the immidiate future to establish our own free-market Institute in Greece.

I have to ask…what is “Ubi Dubiam?”
To me, it is the Latin title of a great Roy Orbison song…does it mean anything else?
“Ubi Dubium, Ibi Libertas” is a lati quote which means “Where there is doubt, there is freedom”.
Great epigram!
Just a clarifying comment: I don’t think you will find many neo-cons in Greece. As in most European countries neo-cons are not much, shall we say, loved…
As for our webpage, there is not a very big list of articles in English yet, but we plan to correct this deficit soon 🙂
