At Last: “Freedom and Jihad: The Middle East and Europe”

Freedom and Jihad Presentation.jpg
Through the good offices of my friend P.J. Doland, I have finally gotten the PDF of my Poweroint presentation at the Reason conference in Amsterdam uploaded: “Freedom and Jihad: The Middle East and Europe.” (Apologies for any typos….especially the use of “on” when I meant “in.”)

  1. Excellent Powerpoint presentation, Tom!

I’ve been convinced for a long time that Islam has great potential for a classical liberal/libertarian influence and that fear of the religion of Islam by Europeans and Americans is greatly mistaken. Clearly your and CATO’s efforts on the internet and conferences are demonstrating the opportunities for such a connection between the Islamic world and classical liberalism.

    Best to you,
    Just Ken

  2. This is a very good presentation.

I’m really struck by slide 5 “How Isolated is the Arab World?” and would love to know the sources for the data.

By my guesstimates you’re saying that between 1980-1985 less than 1,000 books were translated into Arabic vs. about 35,000 into Spanish.

    Can this be right?
