I can’t read your blog without getting hungry now Tom…
Bring the recipees for the next Cato happy hour.
Is this “product placement” for TsingTao?
I highly recommend Yanjing beer, BTW. (an unpaid endorsement, I hasten to add)
Keep up the good work in China.
It is product placement for Tsing Tao!!! It’s great beer, as one might expect for a beer brewed in the former German concession city of Tsing Tao. It’s excellent German beer, made by Chinese people.
I also found that there are some very nice rice wines in China (I didn’t like them all, but some were surprisingly good) and even — a bigger surprise to me — some nice European-style grape wines. (I only found red ones, however; it seems that Chinese people just don’t like white wines. The red wines were omnipresent at good restaurants and were quite drinkable.)
A Russian professor turned me onto Tsingtao beer because he met his wife in the province, I believe.
Anywho, I just had to comment because Tsingtao and Sichuan cuisine combined is as close to a spiritual moment as I’ve had.
