I agree with Tom and wish to add another element. Egypt is an important country with a large population and a central role in the Middle East. They lack the institutions that would free them to achieve prosperity: property, the rule of law, limited government, market economy, independent media. It is not right to mock the people, like Kareem, who suffer from such lack of good institutions. You would probably do no better under the same conditions.
Respect is important in all countries and getting the freedom for Kareem requires showing respect to those with the power over him.
