Andy Morriss: Scholar, Raconteur, Freedom Fighter

I was gathering articles on property rights for a friend in Poland, and among them were several popular pieces by my friend Professor Andrew Morriss. He’s such a good communicator and so insightful (as well as a delightful person to be around). So, here are links to some of his very fine short popular essays on property rights, legal history, the rule of law, and … cowboys and miners.

The Wild West Meets Cyberspace, The Freeman (July 1998)

Why Classical Liberals Care about the Rule of Law (And Hardly Anyone Else Does), The Freeman (November 2005)

Europe Meets America: Property Rights in the New World, The Freeman (January 2007)

Miners, Vigilantes, and Cattlemen: Property Rights on the Western Frontier, The Freeman (April 2007)

Enjoy!

  1. I agree. And the property rights that we are taught to think of as European are only examples of the human need to say ‘this is mine and that is yours’ as a foundation for peace and for the development of wealth.
