November 6 saw dignified protests and statements of support for the cause of jailed Egyptian blogger Abdelkareem Nabil Soliman in Stockholm, Paris, Rome, Washington, D.C., Berlin, San Francisco, Bucharest, London, Brussels, Paris, and other cities.
If you don’t know about his case, please take a moment to find out. Information about his case is available here. How you can help is available here.
Kareem should be free. His only “crime” was to express his opinions and describe what he saw on his blog, the blog of a harmless and gentle college student. You really can do something for freedom and for justice by calling on the Egyptian authorities to correct this terrible mistake and release him. It’s not hard to send a letter. (See above on how you can help.) And it makes a difference. Another way is to give financially to help to pay for his food and clothing while in prison, as he receives no support from his extremist family; his father called for him to be murdered for his remarks on religion. I have donated and I can assure you that 100% goes to Kareem. If there is any left over after he gets out (possibly two more years, unless the Egyptian government listens to the voice of conscience, reason, and justice), it will go to him so he can have something to start a life. (But I don’t expect that it will be much; the donations are very modest.) You can make a safe and secure donation by Paypal here.
The entire effort on his behalf is maintained by volunteers, mainly college students from the Middle East who believe in toleration, freedom, and justice. I support them and I hope that others will join me.
