I’m pretty knackered, as the Brits say, after a very full two days of meetings, lectures, seminars, etc. I met yesterday with officials at the National Bank of Kazakhstan, the Agency for Financial Supervision, the Regional Financial Center of Almaty, and various business groups, and held a seminar on the roots of the financial crisis with a group of young professionals. Today I had some very useful meetings with Kazakh think tanks and made a joint presentation with Krassen Stanchev of the Institute for Market Economics to a group of Kazakh journalists. Tomorrow morning (early) I’m off to Dushanbe, in Tajikistan.
I’m very much looking forward to working with the new Central Asia Free-Market Institute and we’re planning an extensive line of projects for 2009 and beyond.
