Freedom Communications

I’ve long been associated with Freedom Communications and, while in Europe, was interviewed by a reporter on the bankruptcy of that great enterprise. I learned some time ago that newspapers make their money from classified advertising, not from car ads or department store ads. And the biggest chunk is from the “help wanted” ads. So when the economy starts to slide, newspapers get hit very, very hard. Moreover, more and more such ads are moving online. The family and associates behind Freedom Communications have poured a lot of love, thought, work, and wealth into this effort, and it’s heart-breaking to see it go into bankruptcy. I hope it comes back and keeps a strong voice for liberty in American journalism.

I was looking in the Orange Country Register for the article, and came upon this nice note from an old friend, Alan Bock.
