Kyai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, has died. I did not meet him, but heard only praise from Muslim friends. He was involved in the LibForAll foundation, among other groups working for a freer and more just society. When I was in Jakarta I spoke with young Muslim college students who were proud to work with him and proud that a man of such stature would work closely with them on behalf of toleration and equal rights for all.
