I’m in California having a good time talking about “Heroism and the Struggle for Liberty.” (I gave a talk this evening at Santa Clara University and I’ll speak tomorrow at Cal State Hayward and then Thursday at San Jose State University.) I also get to meet with Cato Sponsors, which is a pleasure. They’re interesting, dedicated to liberty and justice, and genuinely nice people.
If anyone wants the outlines for my talks, let me know and I’ll share them. (They’re based on talks I’ve given on the history of constitutionalism, but with more information on a few heroic figures in the struggle for freedom.)
I don’t quite need a hero, but I do want a novel about the civil war. Really, I’m after a gripping thriller with solid factual background. Any recommendations?
Cheers
Welcome to my neck of the woods.
Try How Few Remain and The Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove, the master of alternate fiction. I really enjoyed these.
Dr. Palmer,
I’d love a copy of the outline(s). I already have those relating to the history of constitutionalism, but I’d love to see who you mention as heroes.
Thanks,
Steve
I’d love a copy too.
A small suggestion. Mabe you could put these up on your blog and link to them on the sidebar as you have for your publications. In this way, anyone could download them without bothering you.
I’ve gotten behind on my correspondence and will send these out in the next week. In the meantime, I’ll try to post them online, as well. (My web skills are meager, so it may take a while to figure out how to post them in a usable form.)
