Speech to Iraqi Transitional Assembly

I just got back from giving a presentation in the assembly hall of the Iraqi Transitional National Assembly. It was truly a moving experience for me, as the members had shown such courage in standing for election in the face of threats of assassination or of kidnapping and beheading by the terrorists.

I met with 61 members right after the general session had ended. (There was another caucus meeting elsewhere, as well.) I’ll try to post the presentation (in English and in Arabic) later.

For those who wondered whether Tom shouldn’t concentrate on spreading liberty at home: this is why it makes sense to look beyond one’s own locale when teaching the ideas of liberty.

The Transitional Assembly is trying to write a new constitution for Iraq. It will be a tragedy for millions of Iraqis if they get it wrong — and nothing is more important for getting it right than the ideas that Tom is over there teaching.

For Tom: Keep up the excellent work!
