Brain Chemistry

Pill Thinker.jpg

I take coffee in the morning to start my day (and without it I’m pretty miserable, not that I’m “addicted,” or anything, since I could quit anytime….I just haven’t chosen to do so), but I’ve stayed away from the other brain chemicals (other than beer and wine). So, with that out of the way, I found Joshua Foer’s essay “The Adderall Me” in Slate.com quite fascinating. I would love to be more productive, smarter, and better able to focus. If only a pill could do that.

P.S. While I’m on the topic of consciousness, behavior, and brain structure and chemistry, I’ll note that I recently read a short essay on investigations of subjects with “split brain consciousness.” Very weird, a little disturbing, and unsettling to the notion that I am “one person.” This web site offers some interesting material on the phenomenon.
