Kapitalismus-Debatte in Deutschland

I was interviewed by Die Zeit about the remarks of Franz Müntefering (see posts below: 1, 2). The quotations are in this piece, “America’s Economists Criticize German Ignorance.”

What has always interested me: Does one get money for interviews conducted for the quotes that appear in papers?
My poli sci professor gets money for 2 minute-radio interviews, but for something short as this?
    Just curious.

I don’t believe that I’ve ever been paid for being interviewed. I have been paid to give speeches and lectures, but not for interviews. I don’t believe that it’s standard practice, although television interview programs will pay for expenses (and sometimes pay for interesting people to appear). I have had travel expenses paid for television interviews, but again, no fee, and I don’t recall ever having been reimbursed for any expenses for a radio interview, mainly because they can be done at a studio near wherever I am at the time or by phone.

  3. Until now I was not amused about the Kapitalismuskritik, but after reading your comment in the ZEIT I am really worried. This is because your comparison with the direction of former antisemitism seem to be right. Unfortunately the Kapitalismuskritik is not only adressed to americans, it is adressed to all those who take opportunities without trusting in the state and especially to those who have success. But we should not forget that the eastern part of Germany had no good experiences with transformation from socialism to capitalism. The reason is, of course, that it was no complete transformation, but how to communicate that to the people in Eastern Germany? I hope that the capitalistic reforms in parts of Central and Eastern Europe will rapidly show recognizeable and positive effects, so that these neighbour countries can serve as a positive examples for the Geman commentators and politicians. But, after all, the question remains: how to teach liberty? Your Christoph from socialisitc Germany.
