David R. Henderson
I was just informed by email that my old friend David Henderson will have an article online in the upcoming August issue of Econ Journal Watch on the topic of “The Role of Economists in Ending the Draft.” (It should be online August 1.)
David was intimately involved in the campaign against conscription from the 1970s onward. I worked with him extensively in the late 1970s and early 1980s on the issue and testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Military Manpower, during which David played good cop and I played bad cop. (I recall that my testimony got the chairman, Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia, steaming mad and got me a scolding in an editorial in US News and World Report.)
TGP: I recall that my testimony got the chairman, Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia, steaming mad and got me a scolding in an editorial in US News and World Report.
Was this when you called him “disingenuous” and then clarified for him that this was a polite way of saying he was lying?
