Kennedies, Bushes, and Clintons: Welcome to the Decline of a Republic amid Dynastic Struggles

Senate seat for Caroline Kennedy would extend legacy

“Remember, [Clinton’s] seat in the Senate was once held by Robert Kennedy,” CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider said Saturday. “Her other uncle, Ted Kennedy, is ill right now. If [New York Gov. David] Paterson appoints Caroline Kennedy to the Senate, it means there could be a Kennedy staying in the Senate for quite a long time.”

One good thing about the Obama victory: He’s not from a family accustomed to ruling people.

  1. No, it’s worse. To quote Marlon Brando’s character in Apocalpyse Now, Obama is “an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.” And the only reason he’s got that role is probably preferential treatment on account of race.

  2. Meh. No one is qualified to be a federal politician: these jobs somehow now encompass the subsidiary roles of actor, therapist, superhero, and a million more. If anyone must have those jobs, let them be someone not quite as tainted by sneering nepotism.
