Kyrgyzstan

I’ve had a pretty busy schedule since arriving after a very, very long set of flights from DC to London, London to Almaty, and Almaty to Bishkek. It was freezing (really, really freezing) when I arrived (and that was inside the plane, on which the heating system had failed), but it’s warmed up a bit and is really very pleasant and sunny. I had a good seminar with journalists at the Bishkek Business Club (talking mainly about the global financial crisis), gave a talk to the same topic to a seminar of about 40 economics students, met with think tank leaders or prospective founders, met with 9 members of the leadership team of the Students in Free Enterprise, promoted InLiberty.ru‘s essay contest and summer school, and so on. I’ll meet later today (Sunday) with the AIESEC (originally known as the “Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales”) and then with some libertarian leaders here in Bishkek. For the moment, however, I’m preparing for a short trip to the surrounding mountains, which are very beautiful, as the fog has lifted.
