Russia is set to introduce its own car scrappage scheme following the success of similar programmes in the US and Europe in boosting car sales.

There may be environmental reasons for paying to get “clunkers” off of the road (they pollute a lot more than newer cars), but there is no economic reason for it. It’s pure absurdity. You can’t get richer by destroying your capital. Duh.
