One Response to “Einen Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!”

  1. Happy New Year! I think that 2009 can be summed up as a diarama of the prisoner’s dilemma and the tragedy of the commons in which the public struggles with not having an incentive to work on commons problems, and game-plays denial of responsibility for past problems (prisoner’s dilemma). The result will be escalating problems. The Dow was stagnant on average around 10,500 for seven years (2000 to 2007). Corrected for inflation, it could go below 5,000. Solutions from 1929 won’t work due to existing high government debt, but they’ll try without success. Breakthroughs in science and technology and energy efficiency will be undervalued and overshadowed by other events. Disrupted markets and morale coupled with government cutbacks will result in an increase in industrial accidents such as spills, fires, and crashes, as well as disclosures of sensitive government information. Bizarre crimes of desperation such as kidnapping, blackmail, and insurance fraud will also increase. Last but not least, there will likely be one or more significant terrorist events outside the United States on September 9.
