And Justice Was Done

Jury duty is over and I’m quite confident that we did the right thing.

I learned several things in the process.

First, to have even more respect for legal procedures and greater appreciation of their importance to justice.

Second, to have more respect for the dignity of the law.

Third, to get good legal representation if I ever face legal problems. It seemed that the legal counsel for the plaintiff (who won the case) was, well, not very competent. Had he explained to us clearly what had triggered the legal case in the first place (or, rather, what had triggered the presumption in law that the plaintiff was acting with retaliatory motive), we would have decided the case in far less time and would not have had to figure it out on our own.

The reason we managed to reach a unanimous verdict was because each and every member of the jury took his or her duty quite seriously. I hope that if I ever find myself in court, I’ll have a group of men and women who will be as concerned about law and justice as we were.
