Kofi Annan has just learned that his son received payments through the Iraq oil-for-palaces program:
“Naturally I was very disappointed and surprised,” Annan said, when he learned his son had not fully disclosed his continued involvement with Cotecna. [Cotecna is the Swiss-based firm that verified that the goods flowing into Iraq were all approved foodstuffs, medicines, and so forth — TGP]
The CNN story ended with a nice dig at the Bush administration’s decision to go to war against Saddam Hussein on the basis of, um, flawed intelligence:
Asked if Kofi Annan should resign, Danforth was quoted by Reuters as saying, “I don’t think that the United States government rushes to judgment until all the facts are in.”
