I’m negotiating to sign up for private Krav Maga instruction in D.C., which I have been reliably informed is one of the most effective forms of personal self-defense. It’s another thing to add to or alternate with my gym work.
I think it is always good to take an interest in combatives although in 99% of most situations you will be better served investing time into training with a firearm and learning the laws about concealed carry. Sambo is a good system for unarmed combatives but I am partial to good old fashioned Western style scientific wrestling, bare-knuckle boxing, and maybe some purring (shin-kicking). Check out a great forum here: http://www.groundfight.com/forum
You indicate you’re “negotiating” to sign up for these Krav Maga classes. An interesting phrase, that. Are they so popular they’re turning people away, such that you must negotiate for a spot? Or do they have requirements that must be met above and beyond paying their fees?
Good idea! you might want to have a look at “systema” . Very efficient as well.

Krav Maga is indeed very effective. Being a more eclectic style, it teaches you to make with what you have at an exact moment in time. Good luck.
