It hardly an adequate justification of the decision to send troops to Afghanistan to remove the Taleban from power, but it is a side benefit: the liberation of women from years of house arrest and terror. Female participation in driving schools is one indicator. I am convinced that the mobilization of women to undermine radical Islamist movements is one of the elements of a successful movement for liberalism. That’s not to say that all women will respond favorably (some are themselves radical Islamists who favor persecution of non-conforming women), but the majority do, and they bring with them the fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons who love them.
I agree that this is important. The women in society need to take control of their own lives and not be dominated by the men. That is true in the whole world, but especially in the parts where religious extremists govern or want to govern.
Where does a development like this leave the multiculturalist feminists? I’d imagine it’s enough to make their heads explode…
