The story of Alex Kurzem, aka Ilya Galperin. That that terrible period could have produced more than one case like that of Solomon Perel is remarkable.
I think that there are two elements in this horrific story that we should consider:
1. Again, we see an example of what absolute state power can do to people
2. No matter in what wicked or evil conditions people live or people are forced to do certain things, we must assume that man will always have a free will that no system can drag down.
Those seem to me like the two most important lessons, as well.
