I’m at the Oslo Freedom Forum, where I have met some of the most amazing, brave, and admirable people. I wish that others whom I admire could be here. Some of them know of whom I write. (One very special person comes immediately to mind.)
I am presently listening to the remarkable Jung Chang, co-author of Mao: The Unknown Story and author of Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China. It is hard not to be moved to tears by such words, and by the testimonies of such people as Palden Gyatso, Harry Wu, Vladimir Bukovsky and others. (My neighbor at dinner last night was tortured by the Gestapo, slaved in a National Socialist labor camp, and years later worked tirelessly on behalf of the dissidents in the USSR, including Vladimir Bukovsky. [Bukovsky spoke last year at the Cato.ru/InLiberty.ru summer camp and I have the honor of being a “fellow” Senior Fellow of the Cato Institute with him.])
