I have no idea whether it’s in fact “eco-friendly” (it takes resources to make a phone with a solar recharger, and it’s not clear that the “environmental impact” is greater or less than for a phone that you charge from the grid), but this seems likely to be an improvement for people who lack reliable access to electricity: “Solar cell phones take off in developing nations“
